Select Your Galapagos & Ecuador

Go Where the Wild Things Are!

Imagine yourself setting sail as Charles Darwin did nearly 200 years ago to discover an enchanted world unlike any other. And, just like Darwin, you will discover amazing and unusual wildlife as curious about you as you are of them.

This enchanted world is a land born of fire over 4 million years ago, featuring spectacular volcanic landscapes and geological formations. And, although each island maybe similar in geology and climate, each island is home to unique, endemic species – marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, and giant tortoises to name a few!

You’ll swim alongside sealions, snorkel with sea turtles, paddle with penguins (yes, penguins on the equator!), sunbathe on beaches with Sally Lightfoot crabs, admire the albatross with an eight-foot wingspan soaring over rocky cliffs, and have a belly-laugh at the comical Blue-footed Booby.

So many marine and wildlife encounters await. You will quickly come to understand why the Galapagos are lovingly referred to as the “Enchanted Isles.”

Our goal is to assure that you have the adventure and experience you want. We do this by offering you a wide variety of options, helping you choose the right yacht or land-based eco-lodge and the right itinerary for your style of travel and budget.

Discover the Galapagos: By Land or By Sea?

The Galapagos Islands are a remarkable destination, where unique wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and rich history come together to create an experience like no other. With two exceptional ways to explore the islands—a cruise-based journey or a land-based eco-lodge adventure—each offers its own set of unforgettable experiences. Whichever you choose, your time in the Galapagos promises close encounters with nature, inspiring views, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Choosing the Best Option for You – Each type of tour has its own advantages:

  • Cruise-Based Tours are perfect for travelers wanting to maximize wildlife encounters, reach remote islands, and enjoy a structured, all-inclusive experience. If your goal is to see as much of the Galapagos as possible within a limited time, a cruise is an excellent choice.

  • Land-Based Tours provide flexibility, opportunities for cultural immersion, and a stable base for families or groups. If you prefer to explore at your own pace, interact with local communities, or want the option to enjoy days on the water and others on land, a land-based option may suit you best.

Exploring the Galapagos by Sea: Cruise-Based Tours

For travelers seeking an immersive journey through the Galapagos, a cruise offers a unique opportunity to reach remote, uninhabited islands only accessible by sea. Each day of your voyage uncovers a new facet of the islands, from the vibrant bird colonies of Genovesa to the pristine volcanic landscapes of Fernandina. Available in 4-, 7-, or 15-day itineraries, a Galapagos cruise allows you to explore the breadth of this remarkable archipelago with guided landings, snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking excursions that reveal its astonishing biodiversity.

The structure of Galapagos cruises is carefully regulated by the Galapagos National Park, which has set a 15-day cycle for all yachts. Each yacht’s itinerary is designed to visit specific sites only once during this cycle, a measure that has been instrumental in conserving the islands and ensuring sustainable tourism. This means that every cruise-based itinerary is thoughtfully crafted to maximize the experience while minimizing environmental impact, providing a thorough, yet responsible exploration of the archipelago.

With an all-inclusive setup, a cruise-based tour is ideal for those eager to make the most of their time in the Galapagos. Everything from meals to daily excursions is seamlessly managed, so you can focus on enjoying the experience. Certified naturalist guides lead each activity, sharing their deep knowledge of Galapagos ecology, wildlife, and conservation efforts. Onboard, the small group sizes (typically 16 – 20 guests) create an intimate, personalized atmosphere, making each landing feel like a unique discovery and fostering a genuine connection to the natural world around you.

Experiencing the Galapagos by Land: Eco-Lodge Adventures

Land-based tours offer a more flexible approach to discovering the Galapagos, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local culture while enjoying daily excursions to nearby islands and coastal sites. Staying in eco-lodges on one or more of the main islands—like Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, or Isabela—means you have the comfort of returning to a hotel each night, which can be ideal for families or travelers who prefer more stability and flexibility.

These tours provide ample opportunities for cultural immersion, as you’ll be staying within local communities where you can interact with residents, sample Ecuadorian cuisine, and experience the unique lifestyle of island towns like Puerto Ayora. For those interested in underwater exploration, land-based tours also offer easy access to renowned dive sites, along with options for snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding, all at a pace that suits you.

In addition to day trips to nearby uninhabited islands, you’ll enjoy activities like hiking in the highlands, exploring volcanic craters, and learning about local conservation efforts at sites like the Charles Darwin Research Station. A land-based tour offers the flexibility to tailor your activities each day, making it a great choice if you’re seeking a more relaxed, customizable experience.

Why Immerse Yourself in the Vast Rugged Beauty of the Arctic with Cregor Adventures?

What is a typical day like on board a yacht?

A day on board your Galapagos cruise is all about flexibility, allowing you to tailor your experience to your own energy and interests. Each day offers two land excursions, where you’ll explore different islands, each with its own unique landscape and wildlife. With small group sizes, every excursion offers a personal, immersive experience.

Daily Activities

Beyond island excursions, there are plenty of activities to choose from:

  • Snorkeling: Dive into the crystal-clear waters to spot sea turtles, tropical fish, rays, and, occasionally, playful sea lions and penguins.
  • Kayaking and Swimming: Glide along the shoreline or enjoy a refreshing swim, surrounded by stunning scenery.
  • Panga Rides: Take a leisurely boat ride through mangroves and along coastal rock formations to spot marine and bird life.
  • Evening Presentations: Each evening, our guides offer insightful presentations on Galapagos wildlife, geology, and conservation efforts, enriching your understanding of this incredible environment.

Expert-Guided Excursions

All excursions are led by certified naturalist guides, trained by the Galapagos National Park Service and the Charles Darwin Research Station. Our guides are passionate, knowledgeable, and eager to share their expertise with you. Most hold degrees in the sciences and have years of experience guiding in the Galapagos, so whether you’re curious about endemic species or island ecology, they’re ready to answer your questions.

A Journey Tailored to You

Whether you prefer a packed schedule with snorkeling, kayaking, and land excursions or a more relaxed pace enjoying the views from the deck, you’ll find that each day brings new experiences and encounters.

Why is Snorkeling a “Must Do” in the Galapagos?

Snorkeling is one of the highlights of any Galapagos visit, with so many iconic marine animals to see up close. The underwater life is as spectacular as the landscapes above.

What You’ll See While Snorkeling

The diversity of marine life is unparalleled, and because animals in the Galapagos are so accustomed to humans, you’ll experience close encounters you can’t find anywhere else. Imagine floating in the water beside a green sea turtle, watching a penguin dart past, or a curious sea lion swim circles around you. Not to mention the colorful tropical fish, several species of sharks, rays and even iguanas – marine iguanas.

On most itineraries, you will have an opportunity to snorkel once or twice a day!

What if I have never snorkeled before? Is snorkeling suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Snorkeling in the Galapagos is an unforgettable experience, and it’s perfect for both first-timers and seasoned snorkelers alike. You don’t need prior experience to enjoy the incredible underwater sights here—whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned pro, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable and ready to explore.

What to Expect as a Beginner

For those new to snorkeling, the Galapagos offers:

  • Guided Support: Our guides will help you learn the basics, including using your mask, snorkel, and fins, so you feel confident in the water.
  • Calm and Accessible Sites: Many snorkeling spots are ideal for beginners, with calm, shallow waters where you can comfortably explore marine life at your own pace. Locations like Gardner Bay and Santa Fe Island offer perfect conditions for first-time snorkelers.
  • Small Groups for a Personalized Experience: To ensure everyone feels supported, we maintain small groups. We also have a spotter in the panga, always ready to assist.

Equipment and Safety

  • Snorkel Gear Provided: All equipment, including masks, snorkels, fins, and wetsuits, is provided, although you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Our gear is high-quality and maintained for comfort and ease. We recommend brining your own mask and snorkel, if you have one.
  • Guided Excursions: Every snorkeling activity is accompanied by a certified Galapagos naturalist, who will ensure your safety, provide tips for observing wildlife, and share knowledge about the marine ecosystem.
  • Flexible Options: Snorkeling is offered in a range of spots, from gentle beach entries to more challenging deep-water locations, making it easy to find the right level for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wildlife will we see in the Galapagos?

The Galapagos Islands are an unparalleled destination for wildlife viewing. Due to their isolation and unique ecosystems, the Galapagos are home to an astonishing range of species found nowhere else on Earth, many of which have little to no fear of humans. Here, you’ll have the chance to see Galapagos sea lions, fur seals, Pacific green sea turtles, giant tortoises, marine and land iguanas, lava lizards, bottlenose dolphins, Sally Lightfoot crabs, Galapagos penguins, blue-footed boobies, and hundreds of colorful fish and seabird species. Each island has its own ecological marvels, creating a constantly changing wildlife experience as you travel from one island to another.

Viewing Restrictions and Respect for Wildlife

The Galapagos National Park has established strict guidelines to protect its wildlife. To ensure both your safety and the animals’ well-being:

6-Foot Rule: Visitors are required to keep a distance of at least six feet from all wildlife. This ensures the animals remain undisturbed and safe in their natural habitat.

Guided Excursions: All visits to protected areas must be guided by a licensed naturalist, and visitors must stay on marked trails. This keeps the delicate ecosystems protected and minimizes human impact.

Our certified guides are experts in Galapagos wildlife and are dedicated to both conservation and ensuring that guests have an incredible viewing experience. They’ll discuss all rules during orientation and offer tips for wildlife photography and safe interactions.

Seasonal Highlights

While most Galapagos wildlife remains on the islands year-round, the waved albatross is a notable exception. These majestic birds are only present from April to mid-December, with their nesting season beginning in mid-April. During this time, you’ll witness remarkable courtship displays, egg-laying, and the feeding of young birds. From January to March, however, the waved albatrosses migrate and can only be seen at sea.

Each month in the Galapagos offers unique seasonal highlights, as mating, nesting, and feeding patterns vary. To learn more about the seasonal behaviors of the different species, visit our Galapagos wildlife Blog page for a comprehensive overview.

The wildlife encounters in the Galapagos are truly unique—many animals show an incredible indifference to human presence, allowing for close, respectful encounters with species that have adapted to live in balance with the natural world.

When is the best time to visit the Galapagos?

The Galapagos Islands are a fantastic destination year-round. You’ll find rich marine life, diverse bird species, and vibrant flora throughout the year, making it hard to choose a “best” time. However, slight seasonal variations can cater to different preferences.

Climate Overview

Thanks to its sub-tropical climate influenced by ocean currents, the Galapagos Islands have minimal temperature variations year-round. The islands receive around ten inches of rain per year, mainly in light, sporadic showers, so you’re unlikely to encounter extended rainy spells. Temperatures on land tend to be warmer along the coast and cooler in the highlands, where lush vegetation flourishes.

January – June

From January through June, the seas are typically calmer, making boat travel smoother. The water temperatures warm up to around 75-80°F (24-27°C), ideal for snorkelers who prefer warmer water. This season is also characterized by clear skies and occasional afternoon showers, keeping the islands lush and green. The warmer waters bring out marine creatures like sea turtles and tropical fish, and it’s also a popular time for birdwatching, with several bird species nesting during these months.

July – December

During July through December, the Humboldt Current brings cooler waters, around 66-74°F (19-23°C), and plankton blooms, attracting a wider array of sea life and seabirds. Though the water is cooler, many snorkelers and divers relish the increased biodiversity. This season, called the garua (gah-ru-aah) season, brings mistier mornings and cooler temperatures on land, creating a mystical, subdued landscape in the highlands. Marine life is especially abundant during these months, and it’s a prime time for those looking to witness the famous marine iguanas, sea lions, and Galapagos penguins.

What time of year are the calmest seas?

The waters around the Galapagos Islands are generally calm, but during bad weather and when the boat is traveling against the current, the waters can become a bit rough. The waters tend to be choppier from July to December, especially in September and October, because of the Humboldt Current coming up from Antarctica. We tend to travel at night, so seasickness is usually not a big problem, but it does happen. Some travelers prefer to take medication to prevent seasickness. If you are at all susceptible to motion sickness (or if you are unsure), we recommend bringing medication with you. It is better to err on the safe side and bring extra medication.
